The authorities for the Canton Grisons approved an application for a three-day winter hike from Landquart to Davos subject to certain conditions. However, the Cantonal Road from Klosters to Davos may not be used for a hike for security reasons.

An application for a three-day winter hike on the occasion of the annual meeting of the WEF in January 2020 was submitted to the authorities for the Canton Grisons on January 9, 2020. The hike is scheduled to begin as a local demonstration in Landquart on Sunday, January 19, 2020 with the first stop planned for Schiers. The route from Schiers to Klosters is planned for Monday, January 20, 2020. And finally, an application was submitted for the last stretch between Klosters and Davos on Tuesday, January 21, 2020.

The national road A28 runs between Landquart and Klosters alongside the cantonal road. Route A28 serves as the main traffic and emergency route. This situation thus permits a temporary blocking of traffic on sections of the cantonal road between Landquart and Klosters, allowing the winter hike to take place under certain conditions.

However, between Klosters and Davos, only the cantonal road connectsthe Prättigau valley and the Landwasser. There are neither paths for pedestrians that are easy to walk and cleared in winter nor are there any sidewalks. Since the cantonal road serves as the emergency route and a very high volume of traffic is anticipated for January 21, the authorities, after careful consideration of all issues at hand, have decided to not issue a permit for the section of the route between Klosters and Davos. For similar reasons, no permit can be granted in Davos for a hike along the main traffic routes, and along the Talstrasse, in particular.

Nevertheless, to enable the organizers of the winter hike to still voice and present their concerns in Davos, the executive council of the municipality of Davos has approved a local demonstration at the Rathausplatz for Tuesday, January 21, from 1 to 3 pm.

Related to the winter hike permit, the authorities thus note that partial disruptions can be expected along the cantonal road between Landquart and Klosters on January 19 and 20, 2020. As a result, the authorities recommend using national road A28.
